What I love best
is laughing with you

preferably right before
or right after crying.

When you wiggle
your head around
half roll your eyes
and pout

when your mustache
devours your lips
and you look pained
because you are
trying not to laugh.

Or the rarest form of all
when you really do just
throw your head back
and laugh out loud

straight from the gut
where it catches
both of us off guard,

and I am so glad
you’re still capable
of feeling a thing
like that and

you are always
shocked to learn
you still can.

We are all
tangled up

and the tears
are still forming
in my eyes

or drying up
on your chest
where they
have fallen.

My eyes are shining
right into yours
after all this time

and at last
we are
