Man of the House

I return there
so easily
so gladly
in my mind
at least
once a week
this time of
the year.

I was so
happy there
once upon
a time.

The end came
so suddenly.
And then
again a
few times.

I remember
his face and
thinking that
I’d never grow
tired of it.

But then
I was gone.
And now,
he is gone.

Now he lives
in a land
far away.

But I’ll visit
him again
and again
this time of
the year.

Until we are
together again.
