The Courage to be Calm

The best way
to figure out what
you mean to say is
to start talking.
You can’t stay silent
for fear of saying
the wrong thing.

And if you don’t know
the difference between
right and wrong –
try them on for size.
It won’t take long
to understand
where you stand.

Mostly its about finding
the courage to be ordinary.
Some of my best friends
are ordinary (and let me
tell you) they are capable
of such extraordinary things.

They have the courage to be calm.
To understand that there are things
they are never going to understand.
To know that opening themselves up
to each other and to themselves
means hard work but is the
only work worth having.

Please understand that
the quieter you are
the louder I hear
what you’re not saying.
